ME: Carbon Monoxide Killed 2 Boaters On Lake Of The Woods
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the two men who were found dead Sunday while boating in northern Minnesota.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner said 44-year-old Lonnie Ray Norberg and 35-year-old Edward Wheeler -- both of Champlin, Minn. -- died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
A third man, Christopher Andrew Klick, 43, of Crystal, Minn., survived the incident and remains hospitalized at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a faulty exhaust system may have been the cause for the high levels of carbon monoxide.
The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff's Office responded at about 11:33 p.m. Sunday to the Birch Beach area on a report that a boat had floated to the shore. When authorities arrived, they found two men dead inside the boat.
