Sauk River Drowning Victim Identified

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The 56-year-old man who drowned Sunday afternoon after he went swimming in Sauk River near St. Cloud has been identified.

According to the Stearn's County Sheriff's Office, the St. Cloud Police Department received a call about a man in the Sauk River around 12:47 p.m. Sunday. The caller stated the man had been pulled out of the water onto the shore, but was unresponsive and blue.

Upon arrival, officials attempted to resuscitate the victim, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified Monday as Daniel LeRoy Snively of St. Cloud.

According to officials, Snively had been with friends at an apartment complex earlier, but left his friends to walk into the river. Police said no one witnessed Snively walking into the river, but there were witnesses who saw him swimming and diving in the shallow water.

After he had been gone quite some time, his friends went to go look for him. He was found in the water.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is still determining the exact cause of death, which is not believed to be suspicious. It appears alcohol may have contributed to the incident.
