Roseville Burglary Suspect Caught On Baby Monitor, Bit By K9

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A $3.99 baby monitor iPhone app helped Roseville police arrest a burglary suspect.

A Roseville homeowner spending the winter in southern Kansas looked at her Cloud Baby Monitor Tuesday morning and saw an intruder inside her home, on the 1400 block of Glen Hill Road West, loading her things into his pockets and a bag.

"All of a sudden this figure came into the picture wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt," the homeowner told WCCO.

Police responded to her home and found a black Windstar van in the driveway and footprints in the snow leading to the home and back to the van.

Inside the van, Kennis Ray Littleton Jr., 31, of St. Paul, was hiding.

Littleton would not surrender until after a police canine bit him. In the van, was the woman's safe and some of her jewelry.

He was treated for his dog bite injuries and booked at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center.

Littleton was charged with second-degree burglary Wednesday. If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

"This woman does a do-it-yourself home burglary monitoring system for less than $200, and we catch a burglar basically walking out of the house," Roseville Police Lt. Lorne Rosand said.

The homeowner told police that the iPhone app, a monitoring hub and two motion detectors cost her less than $200.

"I felt totally powerful," she said. "Like 'Haha, you chose my house to burgle, guy!"

Littleton is on probation for a 2014 robbery conviction and has a history of theft-related crimes.
