Report: Wolf Population Growing In Midwest

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Even though more states in the upper Midwest have started wolf hunts, there is a slight increase in the population.

A U.S. Fish and Wildlife report shows the number of wolves living in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan has grown slightly.

It found more than 3,700 wolves were in the area in the past year. Wolf advocates say it's good news for recovery efforts.

Right now, hunting is allowed in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

In Michigan, voters are going to the polls to decide whether to continue wolf hunting there.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources estimates there are 2,400 wolves in Minnesota as of last winter.
