Report Says Women Are Waiting To Get Mammograms

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The debate on when women should start getting screened for breast cancer is heating up again.

New research suggests fewer women in their 40s are getting mammograms after a government panel issued new guidelines, saying most women don't need one until they're 50.

In the nine months since those guidelines were issued, a University of Colorado study found a drop in mammograms in women who were in their 40s.

The American Cancer Society still reports women should get regular mammograms starting at age 40.
