Police: St. Paul Man Hit By Train, Killed Instantly
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –- Police are investigating after train hit a man in Shoreview, Minn., Friday afternoon.
Police identified the man as 54-year-old James John Cunningham of St. Paul, Minn. He was killed instantly when the train hit him at around 2:15 p.m.
He was visiting his family in area and police said that he often went on walks.
Police described the incident as follows: A train, owned by the Minnesota Transportation Museum, was rounding a corner in the Cardigan Junction railroad yard when an engineer spotted a man standing on the tracks. The engineer sounded the horn and applied the brakes, but the train couldn't stop in time.
Police do not expect foul play, and will continue to investigate.
