Officers ID'd In Crow Wing County Shootout That Killed 1, Injured Deputy

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities have identified the officers involved in the shootout that left a deputy injured and a man dead earlier this week in Crow Wing County.

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl said deputy Scott Goddard received a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the shootout. Both Goddard and fellow deputy Adam Kronstedt, who was also involved in the confrontation, remain on administrative leave.

This all stems from authorities responding to a welfare check Wednesday afternoon on Sleepy Hollow Road in the St. Mathias Township. In the woods, deputies found 50-year-old Donald Peter Johnson in a tree stand. He had a gun and threatened to shoot officers. After several hours of negotiations, he got down from the stand and appeared ready to surrender.

He then retreated back into his stand and started shooting, hitting Goddard.

Deputies returned fire and killed Johnson.
