MINNEAPOLIS — In his inaugural address, President Trump said he'll be ushering in a new era and ending a period of American decline. Those executive orders cover a wide range of policies from immigration to energy, trade and inflation.

By declaring a national emergency at the border, the president will send in troops and plan to deport millions of people.

"People across the country voted for that. Follow the law, follow the process and that is the right thing to do," Jennifer DeJournett, the executive director of the Minnesota GOP, said.

But one Minnesota immigration attorney says the community is fearful.

"We are nervous," Esteban Rivera said. "We don't know what going to happen. People with different degrees of immigration status are worried — even U.S. citizens, even permanent residents."

Trump also said he would declare a national energy emergency and encourage "drill baby drill" policies that will tap into American oil and gas reserves and end electric car incentives.

"It's huge," DeJournett said.

Chris Knopf of Friends of the Boundary Waters agrees the Trump energy policy is huge — but not in a good way.

"We are very, very anxious. This for sure is a time we are marshalling our resources," Knopf said.

Trump said, efffective immediately, the U.S. government will now recognize just two genders — male and female  — in all policy matters.

"It really made me feel like my whole community is being systemically intended to be systemically wiped out of society," Minneapolis City Council Member and transgender activist Andrea Jenkins said.
