Minneapolis Man Arrested In Chicago For Fatal Shooting Of Leneesha Columbus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis man charged with fatally shooting a pregnant woman has been arrested in Chicago.

Zachary Robinson, 27, was charged on Wednesday with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a gun.

According to the complaint, police were called to a shooting in south Minneapolis on Sunday night and found 27-year-old Leneesha Columbus outside a shot-up Ford Explorer. Columbus died at a hospital but doctors were able to deliver her baby, although the baby is in critical condition, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office said. Robinson was the baby's father, the complaint said.

Witnesses told police they saw Robinson and Columbus arguing near her Explorer in a parking lot. As Columbus started to drive away, Robinson fired several shots at the SUV and then returned to the parking lot while putting the gun in his waistband.

When a man confronted Robinson in the parking lot and asked him what he was doing, Robinson pulled the handgun from his waistband and shot the man in his right foot, according to the complaint.

Robinson has a history of felony assaults dating to 2009 and is barred from possessing any firearms or ammunition, prosecutors said.

Authorities in Minneapolis say Robinson is in Chicago waiting for transport back to Minnesota.
