Minn. Orchestra Brings Festival To Grand Rapids

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Orchestra heads up north next month.

The orchestra and its musicians travel to Grand Rapids to launch "Common Chords," a new way for the Minnesota Orchestra to reach out to Greater Minnesota cities.

The festival week runs Oct. 10-15 and features more than 30 events tailored to Grand Rapids.

Highlights include visits by Minnesota Orchestra musicians to area elementary and high schools; an "Art of Conducting" workshop at the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce; a cultural exchange with the local Ojibwe community; and four full-orchestra concerts.

The four concerts will be held at Grand Rapids' Reif Center Oct. 14 and 15.

Common Chords is supported by funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the McKnight Foundation and the Mardag Foundation.
