Man Charged In Fatal Minneapolis Hit-And-Run Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Brooklyn Park man has been charged in the hit-and-run crash that led to a woman's death in Minneapolis last Saturday.
On Saturday at 1:10 p.m., police responded to Fremont and 21st Avenues North on a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident with injuries. When they arrived, medical and fire crews were already aiding a seriously injured woman.
The woman was taken to North Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and died a short time later. The driver of the vehicle she was in was her grandson. The entire right side of their vehicle was caved in, police said.
After an initial investigation, police located the unoccupied suspected hit-and-run vehicle close to the accident scene. Police arrested the driver, Perry Bernard Atkins, who was driving under a suspended license, according to the criminal complaint.
Atkins was driving at speeds of about 50 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone, investigators said.
Atkins faces one felony count of criminal vehicular homicide. He was booked at the Hennepin County Jail.
