Man Arrested After 82-Year-Old Notices $20K In Jewelry Stolen

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An Eden Prairie man has been accused of breaking into Burnsville apartment buildings and burglarizing items, including allegedly taking around $20,000 in jewelry from an 82-year-old woman.

Andrew Douglas Page, 30, now faces two felony counts of second-degree burglary.

According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville Police received a call on Feb. 9 from the elderly woman who lived at an apartment complex located on the 600 block of Greenhaven Drive in Burnsville. When police arrived, she told them that a significant amount of expensive jewelry was missing from her apartment. She estimated the loss at around $20,000.

The officer investigated and determined there was no evidence of forced entry, so it appeared someone made entry to her apartment with a key. The officer then checked the apartment building's locked firebox, which contains master keys, and found that those keys were missing. There was no video recording at the complex.

Two days later, another Burnsville apartment complex reported a burglary of an office space.

This apartment did have surveillance video. In the video, a man opened a locked box where master keys were kept, left briefly, came back and left with what appeared to be money bags.

Burnsville investigators took photos from the surveillance video to a Tri-County Investigators meeting where one of the investigators recognized the suspect as Page, according to the complaint.

Investigators learned that Page was arrested by Minnetonka Police on Feb. 8, 2012 – a year earlier – and he was found in possession of locksmithing tools.

If convicted of his charges, Page could face up to 20 years in prison.
