Local Music Tap: 4 Shows To See This Week(end)

Minneapolis is the place to be this weekend for local music! We've got a couple album releases and two awesome block parties. Check them out below.

FRIDAY: batteryboy album release show @ Icehouse – Minneapolis

Indie rockers, batteryboy, are releasing their album, "Before the Silence Breaks" to an Icehouse crowd to kick off a weekend of music.

It's the sophomore effort from a band who has been compared to the likes of Cloud Cult, Bon Iver and The National. However, the new album is an evolution of a "sonic niche" that's entirely their own.

Doors open at 10 p.m. for the 21-plus show. Tickets are $10 at the door.

SATURDAY: Casey Band Album Release @ Uptown Art Fair - Minneapolis

The Casey Band, an American rock band featuring some killer twin fiddles, is releasing its debut EP to a busy Uptown Art Fair crowd this Saturday.

The EP, called "Alive at Pachyderm", was recorded at the iconic Pachyderm studio in Cannon Falls. The studio was put on the map nationally after Nirvana recorded its last album, "In Utero," there.

It all starts at 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Salsa a La Salsa, located on 2841 Hennepin Ave.

SATURDAY: Pizza Luce Block Party – Downtown Minneapolis

Minneapolis' very own hip-hop star, Lizzo, has been tapped to headline the free Saturday show. Other artists include Carnage the Executioner and the Last Band Standing, Run Westy Run, and Charlie Parr — along with a lot more local talent.

The 13th annual block party will again be held right outside the Pizza Luce's downtown location on 119 N 4th St. It starts at noon and runs until 10 p.m.

borough block party

SUNDAY: 4th annual Borough Block Party - Minneapolis

Sunday funday can mean more than a bloody mary and a nap. Here's an idea: check out the Borough Block Party, where there's great food, drinks and amazing live music.

Artists will include: Dig Deep, Private Oates, International Reggae All-Stars, Viva Knievel and the headliner – Chase And Ovation, which is the world's premier Prince tribute band.

The block party is located at 730 Washington Ave. N. and will run from noon to 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance and $9 at the door.
Have a great weekend!
