Klobuchar: Cliff Bill Prevents Doubling Of Milk Prices

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It looks like milk prices won't be going up.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar says the fiscal cliff compromise approved after midnight would extend the farm bill along with current prices for milk.

"What we did do is make sure the milk prices wouldn't double, that the milk program as is continues," she said.

The Minnesota Democrat says it would have been better to pass a new farm bill but an extension was necessary for now. And there was something positive in that early morning vote.

"With 90-some (89) senators voting for it -- only eight against -- we were able to get it done," Klobuchar added.

She says lawmakers will take up a new farm bill in the coming months, one she says will make reforms in the system and reduce the federal debt.
