Jury Reaches Verdict In Mohamed Noor Trial
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- After about a day of deliberation, a jury has reached a verdict in the Mohamed Noor trial.
The jury of 10 men and two women got the case Monday after weeks of testimony. Jurors heard from more than 60 witnesses and experts about the case and procedures.
Noor, a former Minneapolis police officer, is charged with murder and manslaughter in the 2017 shooting death of Justine Ruszczyk Damond. She had called 911 to report a possible sexual assaul behind her home.
On Tuesday afternoon, the jury deliberated for several hours before finally reaching a verdict. The prosecution and defense teams were asked to proceed to the courtroom immediately.
Prosecutors say Noor was not justified in shooting Damond, who called 911 about a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her south Minneapolis home.
Noor's defense argues his actions were reasonable given all the circumstances. Noor testified that he shot Damond after hearing a bang on his squad car.
