Intoxicated Male Falls From Hot Tub, Leg Impaled In Fence Post

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) -- Authorities say a man suffered non-life threatening injuries late Saturday night after falling from a hot tub on the upper level of a home in Golden Valley and landing on a fence post.

The Golden Valley Police Department received a call about the incident at about 11:39 p.m. at 830 Sumter Avenue South. When officers arrived, they learned a man was sitting on the edge of a hot tub on the upper level of the home, fell to the lower level and landed on a fence post.

The man's upper thigh area of his leg was impaled by the fence post. Firefighters were called to the scene to assist in cutting part of the fence out to free the man. The victim, whose name has not been released, was conscious and talking at the scene.

Authorities said the man appears to be in his 20s, and was taken to North Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Alcohol was a factor in the incident, police said.

Sgt. Dave Born with the Golden Valley Police Department said the man is lucky to be alive as he could have easily severed a vein, or the fence could have become impaled in his chest or abdomen.

The incident remains under investigation.
