Indictment: 4 Face Charges In New Year's Day Murders

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A federal indictment unsealed Monday charges four men for stabbing a couple to death on the Red Lake Indian Reservation on New Year's Day 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The indictment, which was filed on Aug. 16, charges 29-year-old Geshik-O-Binese Martin, 45-year-old David Martin, 24-year-old George Martin, and 28-year-old Edward Robinson with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and one of robbery.

The indictment, which was unsealed following the defendants' initial court appearances Monday, also charges Kevin Needham, 20, and Terin Stately, 25, of robbery.

The charges say the three Martins and Robinson stabbed Craig Roy and Darla Beaulieu while stealing money and drugs from Roy's home. The bodies of Roy and Beaulieu were found inside the remains of the home, which burned down that New Year's Day.

Autopsies showed Roy and Beaulieu died of multiple stab wounds, the Justice Department said.

If convicted, those facing murder charges face maximum penalties of life in federal prison. The robbery charges have a potential maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison.

It should be noted that since the federal criminal justice system does not have parole, those convicted look to spend virtually all of their sentences in prison.

Geshik-O-Binese Martin is currently in the Beltrami County Jail, and Edward Robinson is currently in federal custody.
