Minnesota Students Honored For The Lost Art Of Handwriting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Many schools have stopped teaching children how to write cursive, but a school in Minnesota still takes handwriting very seriously -- and it is gaining national recognition.
Publisher Zaner-Bloser honored four students from Red Rock Central Elementary in Jeffers.
The work of a student named Ella was so impressive that she won the best handwriting award for all fourth graders across the nation.
"We had to write a certain sentence. It had all the letters of the alphabet in it: 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog,'" Ella said.
She won $1,000, which she says is going to her college fund.
Ella's brother took home the regional award for handwriting in the second grade.
