Guide To Spending New Year's Eve 2015 In Minnesota

If you are spending New Year's Eve in Minnesota, consider yourself lucky. Yes, it is probably going to be a bit on the chilly side with a chance of snow and ice, but the community you will be spending your evening with is the warmest in the world. Whether you are up for a quick celebration before you rush home to watch the ball drop on television or an all-night party, everything is available within a short drive. So gather up your loved ones or just head out on your own to meet some new best friends. Here are some tips on making the evening smooth and spectacular.
Plan Ahead

New Year's Eve is not one of those nights to head out and see where the wind blows you. The high traffic of celebrators may make it difficult to find parking or just getting into a show you want to see. Minnesota has so many options for New Year's that range from family-friendly to over-the-top wild.

If you want to see fireworks, head on over to Buck Hill for their midnight show, where you can ski, board or tube until the clock strikes midnight with their special extended hours for the holiday. Or, for the state's biggest party, head to International Square in Minneapolis and join in on their Crystal Ball Celebration, which also offers special bottle service and shuttles to get you safely to and from the extravaganza.

Pick your company, choose your destination, and make sure you know how you are getting there and back. Planning helps to avoid unnecessary trips and wasted time. New Year's comes but once a year, don't blow it on wandering around or waiting in line.

Decide How To Get There And Get Home

The most important part of the planning process is knowing how you are getting to your location and how you are getting home. Many Minnesotans choose to imbibe on this night of celebration, leaving open the possibility that transportation may become a factor. Minnesota offers so many options for travel around the city that range from taxi to Uber to city bus. On New Year's Eve, Minnesota offers free rides on the lightrail and bus system, a great option to take advantage of to avoid the hassle of driving and parking.

Grab a schedule, upload an app, or just stay away from the booze and drive. A great party can be even greater without a cocktail most of the time!

Celebrate With Friends Or Loved Ones

Don't do New Year's Eve alone. Find a best friend or a family member to spend your night with. New Year's Eve is a magical time of renewal and celebration, but is best enjoyed in the company of someone familiar. With the massive numbers of Minnesotans heading out to explore the city, one can get lost in the exuberance alone. Although you may not head out with the person you plan on kissing when the clock strikes midnight, having a partner or partners in crime is a better way to ring in the New Year rather than alone.

Indulge Your Vice Before You Make It Your Resolution

As long as your vice is legal, have a little fun with it before you give it up for good. Eating healthy for your resolution? Indulge in some rich and decadent meals in numerous places around the state. Quitting drinking? Enjoy a fantastic cocktail or craft beer in downtown Minneapolis before you give it up for good. Stay out too late, pay too much for parking, or just enjoy the start of another year for the evening.

Sleep In The Next Day

Most employers close for the first of the year. Take advantage of the time off. Start the New Year off with some rest for your tired body. Sleep deprivation has become an epidemic for most that shouldn't haunt your first day of 2016. Get up too early the rest of the year, today is your day to relax before beginning your best year yet.
