Gov. Walker Signs Bill Ending Waiting Period For Handguns

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The 48-hour waiting period for purchasing a handgun in the state of Wisconsin is now a thing of the past.

Governor Scott Walker signed a bill into law yesterday that eliminates the waiting period.

However, the law does not change who is eligible to possess a handgun.

"Felons can't possess a firearm. Any criminal backgrounds, anybody that's on a parole or anything like that, they won't pass a background check," Wisconsin gun shop owner Roger Wendling

While the bill has been signed, it will still take some time for it to trickle down and become a reality in gun shops.

Wisconsin now joins about 40 other states that no longer have a waiting period when it comes to handgun purchases.

Minnesota has a seven-day waiting period for handguns, except for those with carry permits.
