Get Rid Of Hazardous Materials At Summer Collection Events

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Have paint, pesticides, old batteries, computers, VHS players and aerosol cans you want to get rid of?

Whatever you do, don't put them in the trash. Such materials can harm other people, the environment and local wildlife, the city of Minneapolis said in a statement Monday.

What you can do is safely dispose such materials at the summer's two remaining collection events. The first is scheduled for July 26-28 at Dunwoody College of Technology. The second is slated for Aug. 16-18 at the Pillsbury School, located in northeast Minneapolis, the city said.

Materials accepted at the collection events include: batteries, paint, fire extinguishers, drain cleaner, pool chemicals, wood preservatives, DVD players, computers and various fuels. You can see a full list here.

If you don't want to wait for the collection dates, you can just drop off materials at Hennepin County facilities.
