City Council To Vote On $2M Settlement In Citizens Academy Death
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Florida city council is slated to vote Wednesday on a settlement that would give more than $2 million to the estate of a former Minnesota woman who was shot and killed in a citizens academy accident.
Mary Knowlton, 73, formerly of Austin, died in August after being hit by a live round in "shoot, don't shoot" demonstration in Punta Gorda. Investigators aren't sure why the gun used in the demonstration was loaded.
Court documents show a settlement between the city and Knowlton's family was reached last week, with the city agreeing to sign a check to the family for $2,060,234.
The city would not have to admit liability, the agreement states.
