Family Out Of Home After Overnight Fire

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) -- A family of six has to find a new place to stay this Christmas Eve after fire damaged their home in Apple Valley.

Fire Chief Nealon Thompson said the fire started around 2 a.m. at a home on the 15900 block of Granada Avenue in Apple Valley.

Chief says the residents were cooking in the kitchen, left the food unattended and then fell asleep. Smoke detectors woke them up.

Two of the residents tried to put the fire out. Thompson said one of them suffered smoke inhalation, the other also had smoke inhalation and burns to their legs. One man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be O.K.

Thompson said most of the damage is confined to the kitchen but there is smoke damage to the rest of the home.

The Red Cross is helping the family with their immediate needs.
