Warren Holds Criminal Justice Roundtable On Second Day Of Campaigning In MN

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the second day, presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren held an event in the Twin Cities.

Last night, it was a rally at Macalaster College that attracted thousands. Today, it was a tour and roundtable at a south Minneapolis nonprofit called Better Futures.

The organization helps those who have left prison find a new way to live.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren came to the nonprofit because of its track record of turning men's lives around who have just gotten out of prison.

"We want the men to get as much training and development as they can," P.J. Hubbard, vice president of operations at Better Futures said.

Warren toured the warehouse, which employs former inmates to repurpose things discarded from torn down homes.

At the roundtable Warren said, "We know that there is a crisis in the criminal justice system and that it's every part of the system."

The event comes the day after a rally at Macalaster College, which Warren staffers say attracted 12,000 -- the largest crowd of her campaign to date.

The rally size is even more impressive that it happened in the backyard of another presidential candidate, Sen. Amy Klobuchar. But while Klobuchar's poll numbers are stuck in the low single digits, Warren's have been rising. She's in second place behind former Vice President Joe Biden in some national surveys.

It's an indication that the race is wide open. And Minnesota, with its new presidential primary, is very much in play.

"We are the only Midwestern state in the super Tuesday line-up. This is a state that a lot of the candidates want to win."

Warren is not the only Democratic presidential candidate who has visited Minnesota. Klobuchar is of course here most weekends and when Congress is not in session. Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Andrew Yang and Beto O'Rourke have campaigned here.

And on the Republican side, President Donald Trump has repeatedly tweeted that he plans to this state.

The Minnesota campaigning continues this weekend, as Sen. Bernie Sanders will be holding a fundraiser at the Hook and Ladder Theater in Minneapolis
