Dessa To Perform With Minneapolis Students
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Local hip-hop artist Dessa will be joined by hundreds of students from Minneapolis Public Schools during an upcoming performance.
The musician teamed up with local composer Jocelyn Hagen to write a song that students will perform in late April.
One of the final rehearsals was held Friday at Patrick Henry High School.
"Today it was a lot of fun to hear how the tenors actually balanced the altos and how the pizzicato strings came through," Dessa said.
Seven-hundred choir and orchestra students have been practicing the song for weeks.
"They made a lot of progress in just one day, so it's really exciting to think about what it's going to sound like in a month," Hagen said.
The performance is the highlight of the Viva City Fine Arts Festival, which features art created by students.
There will be two concerts - both free and open to the public - at the Minneapolis Convention Center on April 28 and 29 at 7 p.m.
