Today kicks off the beginning of the Minnesota State Fair, and it is Thrifty Thursday. Admission prices are reduced all day, and many merchandise and food vendors offer special Thrifty Thursday bargains for all fair guests.

Thursday is STEM Day at the fair, which will offer fair goers insight on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This year, STEM Day will include a new Girls Zone, robotics, an opportunity to sit in the cockpit of an F4 jet and a chance to see what it's like to drive a MNDoT snowplow in a training simulator. The STEM Day activities will take place at Dan Patch Park from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

America's favorite stunt dogs are also returning to the fair and attendees can watch the pups flip, jump and dive beginning at 11 a.m. at the North Woods Stage.

Another event not to be missed on the fair's first day is the Timberworks Lumberjack Show. Flannel-clad athletes will compete in a decathlon of timber events including single buck sawing, logrolling and speed climbing.

While there will be plenty of entertainment to get your fair experience started, one of the greatest parts of the state fair is the variety of delicious food. This year, there are plenty of exciting new options, including a rainbow cloud roll featuring three scoops of ice cream sprinkled with fruity cereal and wrapped in cotton candy. Don't get sick eating too many of these dreamy treats! For more new food options, click here.
