Coleman Gives Budget Address, Plans For Lowertown Revitalization
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A makeover for St. Paul's Lowertown is in the plans for the city next year.
Mayor Chris Coleman talked about it in his budget address Monday afternoon. He spoke at the farmers market, telling the crowd he expected an increase in the tax levy of about 2 percent.
The city has balanced its budget while fully funding police, fire stations, and libraries, Coleman said.
The downtown revitalization plan includes doubling the size of some sidewalks to make way for patios and cafes. Coleman said mass transportation will make it all more accessible.
The mayor also spoke on breaking ground on a new ballpark for the St. Paul Saints.
Coleman also announced funds to invest in Frogtown Farms to create more green space and economic development in that part of town.
