ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Minnesota's Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the state Capitol grounds was the site of a solemn ceremony Sunday to honor those killed on duty within the last year.
Firefighters from around the state gathered to honor those who died on duty. The names of all firefighters killed while working are etched on the memorial in front of the Capitol building.
Bud Wavra came to the ceremony from the Duluth area for a second straight year. Last year, it was for his fire chief, this time it's for Rice Lake Township firefighter Randy Hiti.
A large American Flag hung from a pair of extended fire truck ladders nearby the memorial, which now has the names of 216 Minnesotans who died while working as firefighters.
