With the holiday season upon us, it's time to start thinking about ways to bring the festive spirit to your home. With trees and garlands indoors and lights and wreaths outside, there are plenty of ways to bring the cheer this December. Best of all, decorating doesn't have to be expensive. Check out this round-up of the best garden centers, tree farms and decoration supply locations to get started on your holiday decoration shopping this year.

A staple in landscaping and gardening in the Twin Cities, Gertens is also a premium spot to pick up beautiful indoor and outdoor holiday decorations. From Christmas lights to decorative villages, as well as wreaths, garlands and floral arrangements, there's plenty here to satisfy your style. Gertens also hosts weekly Girls Night Out events on Wednesday evenings through November and December, featuring exclusive decorating ideas and special holiday shopping deals. Visit Bachman's Holiday Ideas House to get unique ideas for decorations and find the perfect pieces to complete your theme. The St. Paul location in the Dairy Queen parking lot on Snelling Avenue is centrally located and easy to find. Alternatively, visit the tree farm in Sandstone (located about an hour and a half north of the Twin Cities) to pick out and cut your own tree. With sleigh rides on the weekends and free apple cider, it's a trek worth making. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, you can stop by the Richfield Farmer's Market to pick out your Christmas tree for the year. Stop in during one of the first two weekends after Turkey Day and enjoy a free horse-drawn wagon ride with the family as part of your purchase. Are you working with too small of a space for a whole tree? B & J Trees also sells wreathes, kissing balls, swags, garlands and tabletop trees. If you need a big tree, it also offers delivery service to homes and businesses for an additional fee. Trees start at $25.

While the holiday season can be plenty of fun, it can also get stressful as you try to manage a budget while you celebrate. Enter Arc's Value Village and Merry Thriftmas. Beginning on November 3rd and running through December 24th, this shopping event will allow you to decorate and celebrate without breaking the bank. What's best of all is that your shopping gives back. Arc is a non-profit, United Way community partner and proceeds from this event go back to developmentally disabled individuals in the local community. If you have decorations you no longer need, consider donating them here and know that they will brighten several people's holidays this year.
