As Calls For Budget Vetoes Mount, Dayton Urges Caution

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton is warning some advocates that a second crack at some parts of the budget may be the wrong move.

The Legislature's budget bills still hadn't made it to Dayton's desk as of Wednesday afternoon. Beyond an education budget he's promised to veto, Dayton isn't saying which bills he may strike down.

Environmental groups are asking the governor to veto a budget bill they say would do more harm than good. Energy and grant provisions in an economic development bill have also raised the prospect of vetoes.

But the Democratic governor said Wednesday bills could come back worse from a special session.

Dayton says he'll meet with House Speaker Kurt Daudt next week to start mapping out a special session deal.
