Afton Alps Hosts Crashed Ice Qualification Competition
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Still hoping to compete in Red Bull's Crashed Ice Competition next weekend?
Here's your chance to qualify.
Afton Alps is hosting the first International Ice Cross Downhill Rider's Cup this weekend. It's the first of four events across the world, but Afton's track is unlike any other.
The Rider's Cup is an event put on for the athletes, by the athletes.
They flew in from all over the world to design the course themselves.
"The first time I flew down this thing I got these butterflies, and it was the first time I really felt how strongly this sport can grow," skater Reed Whiting said.
The Ice Cross Downhill is the fastest sport on skates, with athletes racing at speeds of 40 miles per hour!
The main event is at 2:15 p.m. Sunday. For more information visit Afton Alps online.
