AAP: Car Seats Should Only Be For Traveling

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The American Academy of Pediatrics recently released a statement that has many people talking.

The AAP said, "cribs are for sleeping, car seats for traveling."

Doctors warn many parents are using car seats improperly, not realizing that infants sleeping unsupervised in seats are at risk of suffocation.

This warning also applies to baby swings and bouncers.

Sleep-related deaths are the most common cause of death for infants up to 12 months of age.

Doctors recommend infants sleep on their back on a firm mattress, without loose bedding.
