Nearly 50 Elementary Students Fall Ill After Camp Pepin Trip
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Nearly 50 elementary school students are sick following a trip to YMCA Camp Pepin earlier this week, officials say.
Farmington Schools Superintendent Jay Haugen said a group of fifth graders from Akin Road Elementary brought the illness – which is reportedly acting like a norovirus – with them to the camp earlier this week.
The Monday to Wednesday trip ended on a bad note after dozens fell ill on Tuesday night. A second group from North Trail Elementary arrived on Wednesday and went home a day early as a precaution seeing a total of 47 children are now sick.
Camp Pepin is taking an extra day to thoroughly clean the campsite and Hauger said the camp itself had nothing to do with students getting sick.
