3-Year-Old Suffers Critical Burns In Millville, Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 3-year-old boy is recovering from critical burns to more than half of his body.

The boy was burned Monday outside his Millville home.

Police say children sprayed lighter fluid into a lunch box and started it on fire. One child then stomped on the box and splashed the burning fluid onto the 3-year-old.

Their mother burned her hands putting out the flames on the boy.

He was flown by helicopter to Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester and the mother was transported by an ambulance on the ground.

The 3-year-old is in critical condition while the mother's injuries are non-life threatening.

The Wabasha County Sheriff's Office said it's just a "terrible tragedy" and no charges are expected to be filed.
