2 Dead In Saturday Plane Crash On Madeline Island
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two people are dead after a single-engine plane crash on Madeline Island, according to officials.
Authorities said they received a 911 call regarding the crash around 6:34 p.m. Saturday in the vicinity of the Madeline Island Airport in La Pointe, Wis.
La Pointe Police were dispatched and immediately responded to the airport, where they spotted the plane fully engulfed in fire.
The aircraft is described as a single-engine plane possibly a piper Comanche.
Authorities said it appears the aircraft was attempting to land when it went into a wooded area, short of the runway and caught fire.
Two people were confirmed dead. They have not been identified.
The crash remains under investigation.
