Health officials in Minnesota are asking parents to keep an eye out for signs of hepatitis in children, as the number of kids who have experienced the rare yet severe liver disease increases across the country.
The state's case growth rate stands at 23.7 daily new cases per 100,000 residents. That's above the high risk threshold, and the rate has been climbing for more than a month now.
"It was so surreal. I just felt like I was in a nightmare and I wanted to wake up," said baker Ann Alaboud.
The Minnesota Senate on Thursday voted unanimously to create a framework for distributing about $300 million that the state is receiving as part of a settlement with opioid distributors and manufacturers.
North Dakota has become the latest in a growing number of states that is investigating a mysterious case of hepatitis in a child where all the usual causes have been ruled out.
Experts are investigating multiple theories as to why a mysterious case of severe hepatitis is affecting clusters of children across the world.
South Dakota is among several states where Republicans have moved to restrict access to abortion pills in recent months. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said additional, in-person visits for the pills and a ban on them being sent through the mail are needed to protect women and save "unborn children."
Minnesota's latest COVID-19 case growth rate is more than triple what it was in mid-March, according to data released by the health department.
CBD products and stores have exploded across the state. Some carry other products that contain THC, like what's called Delta-8. The space was unregulated in the state until 2020. Now most of the products sold are legal.
"It's still a very fluid situation, and there's still a lot of virus being transmitted," Commissioner Malcolm said.
This comes the same week as a Politico report that shared a leaked draft of the forthcoming U.S. Supreme Court ruling on abortion, showing the justices appearing to be on the verge of overturning the 1973 ruling.
The latest update from the Minnesota Department of Health brings the state's total case count to 1,459,345, including more than 66,000 reinfections.
In Minnesota, abortion providers are required to report induced abortion figures every year to the state's health department.
