A Minnesota woman hopes her coaching pays off for Julianne Moore, who is nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the film "Still Alice." In the movie, Moore plays the role of a woman with early onset Alzheimer's disease. Moore reached out to Sandy Oltz, of Stearns County. Oltz also suffers from the disease.
New York Times media columnist David Carr died of complications from metastatic lung cancer, according to autopsy results released Saturday. Julie Bolcer, a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner's office, said the autopsy shows heart disease also contributed to his death.
Minnesota filmmakers are being invited to submit entries to a new shorts program at this year's ReelAbilities Film Festival Minneapolis-St. Paul. The Dave Matthews Band will be bringing its Summer Tour 2015 to St. Paul this summer. On Monday, Xcel Energy Center and Live Nation made the announcement, saying the Dave Matthews Band is set to play at Xcel on July 1 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13.
A few Grammy nominees with Minnesota connections won golden gramophones on Sunday night, but the biggest Minnesota winner of all was presenter Prince, according to the reception on Twitter. Prince was on hand to present the album of the year award, which many expected to go to either Beyonce or Sam Smith.
