After a weekend of increased DWI patrols and live-tweeted arrests, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (MnDPS) has announced hundreds of DWI arrests. The MnDPS tweeted Monday morning that approximately 425 DWI arrests were recorded this weekend.
A 30-year-old Minneapolis woman who kidnapped her friend's baby back in February, prompting an Amber Alert, was sentenced in Hennepin County Court on Monday. Isabel Diaz-Castillo was sentenced to three years in prison with credit for 181 days served. She pleaded guilty back in July to one count of kidnapping in connection with the incident.
A Madison man whose unusual name drew national attention last year after he was arrested for marijuana possession now faces drug charges in Iowa. Felony drug charges have been filed against Beezow Doo-doo Zopittybop-bop-bop.
A man is in jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and DUI after a crash in Pine County on Saturday that killed a Maplewood man, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday on Highway 70 at Government Road in Pine County.
A man was arrested in northern Minnesota Saturday night after rolling his car, then allegedly stealing a vehicle from a Good Samaritan trying to help him, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. Authorities responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash at about 10:34 p.m. Saturday on the 4400 block of Martin Road with the vehicle possibly on fire.
More than 200 drivers are facing drunk-driving charges after just one night of increased patrols. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, 225 drivers failed sobriety tests during Friday night. The department is also tweeting information about those arrested for DWI, including age, gender and blood alcohol level of offenders. The arrest location is also noted, but the names of the offenders are not revealed.
Saturday's 5K was a run that carried a much deeper meaning than exercise. The "5K for Dani J" race was for Danielle Jelinek, who was found dead near her boyfriend Aaron Schnagl's home in May. Schnagl's in jail on drug charges. The event had her name all over it -- from the fast tunes to the footwork.

Organizers demand justice for 22-year-old Terrence Franklin who was killed by Minneapolis police in a basement shootout in Uptown back on May 10. Police said Franklin shot and injured two Minneapolis officers.

A Hennepin County grand jury will review the case of a man who died during a struggle with Minneapolis police. And on Friday, Michael Padden, an attorney for Terrance Franklin's family, said the Hennepin County Attorney should not be involved in the case. Police said Terrance Franklin was shot on May 10 after he tried to grab an officer's gun.
A man faces federal charges of lewd and obscene behavior on an aircraft after being accused of exposing himself to a woman next to him on a flight to Salt Lake City.
Authorities have identified the officers involved in the shootout that left a deputy injured and a man dead earlier this week in Crow Wing County. Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl said deputy Scott Goddard received a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the shootout. Both Goddard and fellow deputy Adam Kronstedt, who was also involved in the confrontation, remain on administrative leave.
A Farmington man has been charged with one count of careless driving after he allegedly caused a crashed that resulted in the death of his passenger, according to the Dakota County Attorney's office. Thirty-two-year-old Saloman Galacia Adorno was driving on southbound Highway 77 in Apple Valley on Dec. 2, 2012, when witnesses saw him swerve slightly to right and then abruptly to the left. As a result of this over-correction, Adorno's GMC Savana van hit the guardrail and crash cushion around the bridge pillar at McAndrews Road.
A 59-year-old Plymouth man who had a business partnership with an auto sales company is accused of swindling more than $100,000 from that company, according to charged filed Friday in Anoka County Court.
