State health officials say two Minnesota babies have gotten sick from bacteria matched to a recalled sesame paste product. The Minnesota Department of Health said Friday neither child required hospitalization. Both are less than 1-year-old and are recovering.

As farmers get underway with their spring planting, some bee farmers in Minnesota are already counting their losses. In the last couple days one major producer reported that thousands of honey bees suddenly died.

Leading Minnesota lawmakers have sorted out a tax package that is the linchpin of the next state budget. The top two percent of income earners will pay two percent more on a portion of their income. The per-pack tax on cigarettes will rise by $1.60. Some corporate tax preferences will go away. But there won't be any changes to the alcohol tax.
Drivers, and their wallets, have likely noticed the big 15 percent jump in gas prices this week. Some saw prices as high as $4.29 a gallon.
Minnesota lost 11,400 jobs in April, and state officials are attributing part of the drop to the persistent wintry weather. The Department of Employment and Economic Development says the cold, snowy April slowed hiring in seasonally sensitive sectors including construction, leisure and hospitality, and local government. The biggest job losses were in trade, transportation and utilities.
As gas prices in Minnesota reached record high prices of about $4 per gallon, Sen. Amy Klobuchar called on the Department of Energy to take action. The gas price spike came after the closure of oil refineries in the Midwest for maintenance.
