South Florida’s "Alligator Alcatraz" nears closure after federal ruling

South Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention facility in the Everglades is being emptied after a federal judge ordered its shutdown, citing environmental violations and inhumane conditions. Tribal leaders and environmental groups, who sued to protect sacred lands and endangered species, say they’ll keep fighting if the state appeals, even taking the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
