Miami-Dade sheriff says proposed funding falls short of public safety needs
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz says the $50.4 million increase proposed in Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s 2025–26 budget isn’t enough to meet the demands of her department. She’s requesting a total increase of $93.8 million, citing more than 200 deputy vacancies and the need to prepare for major events like the World Cup. The sheriff warns that without additional funding, response times and public safety could be compromised.
