Woman Accused Of Stockpiling Phony Designer Goods For Sale

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A BSO conference room, filled with what looked like designer bags.  As it turns out, many of them were fake, and were likely going to be under the Christmas tree, wrapped up as a high priced holiday present.

The counterfeit goods include big names like Prada, Hermes, Gucci, Chanel and more.

"I haven't seen anything like this in my career, this amount of goods," said BSO Sgt. Jeff Criminello.

Rajwante Rambharat was arrested, accused of importing these knock off bags from China, with plans to possibly sell them at a flea market.  BSO stumbled upon them while going to arrest her for the same charge, but a different case.  But when they arrived at her home, they were in for a big surprise.

"Her home is actually being used as a small warehouse for stolen equipment," said Criminello.  "So as detectives made contact with her, arrested her at her home, which is a small villa, it was wall to wall packed with all this merchandise.

Inside her home are signs of the counterfeit bags in a plastic tub out front.  Neighbors said a van that was parked in front of the apartment belongs to Rambharat. Investigators wouldn't say more to CBS4's Ted Scouten.  It's filled with lots of stuff, including mannequins, clothes and purses.  Investigators said that Rambharat is just a small player, in a bigger game.

"This merchandise, we believe, is coming in containers from China," said  Criminello. "We believe she's part of a  larger group and we're hoping this puts a dent, at least in the South Florida area, the counterfeit merchandise."

In all, there are about 600 items  here--80 different versions of designer items. Some of these bags would have sold for as little as $25.
