Truck Used In Miami Gardens Hit & Run Still Missing

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami.com) – Florida Highway Patrol investigators have questioned and released a man who is a person of interest in a deadly hit-and-run crash in late April.

According to Sgt. Mark Wysocky of FHP, the Odingo Walden, 40, voluntarily came in to answer questions about the hit-and-run crash that took the life of Andre McCarthy, 14.

McCarthy and his 15-year-old brother Akeem were leaving a Wal-Mart by crossing the intersection of NW 199th Street and NW 27th Avenue when a red pickup truck hit them and sped off.

Andre McCarthy was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, but his injuries were too severe and he died.

After a relative saw Walden's picture on television, he came in to speak with FHP investigators. FHP said Walden was not forthcoming with much information. He did not give any information on the truck and didn't tell investigators where the truck is now.

"He's like a recluse to the family," said Vincent Walden, Odingo's Uncle. He said he hasn't seen his nephew in more than a year. But Vincent added that this is a a very difficult issue for the Walden family because Odingo's brother was killed in a hit and run accident about 20 years ago.

"I just pray to God," said Vincent Walden. "That the best thing for him to do is come forward like he did yesterday. I seen it on the news myself. Come forward to law enforcement lay it on the table."

FHP said that Walden was not arrested at this time. The search for the truck used in the crime is still being sought.

Anyone with information about the truck or its drivers is asked to call the FHP at (305) 475-2500 or Miami Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471 TIPS.
