Bermuda Preparing For Tropical Storm Gert

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Gert is slowly strengthening as it makes its way toward Bermuda.

At 11 p.m. Sunday, the center of the system was located about 170 miles south-southeast of Bermuda. The storm was headed west-northwest at about 12 mile per hour, having increased it's f0rward motion since the last advisory.

Maximum sustained winds had increased to 45. Tropical storm force winds extend approximately 60 miles from the storm's center, primarily east of it.

The National Hurricane Center expects the storm will strengthen over the next 48 hours and take a gradual turn toward the northwest on Sunday.  The center of Gert is expected to pass near or just east of Bermuda Sunday night or early Monday.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been posted for Bermuda.  Gert is expected to dump up to three inches of rain on Bermuda and create life threatening surf and rip currents well into Monday.
