Man Who Shot Tow Truck Driver Facing Charges

HIALEAH (CBS4) – A Hialeah man accused of shooting a tow truck driver was charged with two counts of attempted murder after a 'repo' attempt went wrong, police said.

The entire incident was caught on tape by a surveillance camera of a nearby apartment building.

Police said Vladimir Perez-Niebla, 35, shot a tow truck who was repossessing his vehicle. The tow truck driver, who was later identified as 28-year-old William Del Valle of Hialeah, was shot in the stomach, sources told CBS4's Peter D'Oench.

The incident happened Wednesday near Palm Avenue and 23rd Street around 9:45 p.m. Hialeah police spokesman Detective Eddie Rodriguez said Del Valle was in the process of repossessing Perez-Niebla's car when the he came out and started shooting.

"This was crazy," Rodriguez  said. This victim could have been killed. If you think your car's being wrongly towed, don't take action on your own. Call the police. This guy who did this came out shooting. We found at least four to five shell casings around the area where the bullets were fired."

Police said after he was shot Del Valle's wife drove him to the hospital. Del Valle dropped the car as he and his wife escaped the scene. Perez-Niebla returned to the scene with his car and was soon met by police.

"He (Perez-Niebla) was still holding the gun, and at gunpoint, then he dropped the gun," said Hialeah detective Carl Zogby. "I mean this guy was angry."

Del Valle has been released from the hospital and is resting at home.
