Thunderstorms Possible Thursday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An early March low pressure area is expected to move out of the Gulf of Mexico and across parts of Florida on Thursday into Friday morning. That could set the stage for thunderstorms, some of which could be severe.

The South Florida area will be in the warm sector of the low pressure area and that will draw in warm, moist air that will destabilize the atmosphere.

The forecast for Thursday includes a chance of thunderstorms with a high of 85 degrees and a low Thursday night of 69 degrees.

Between the unstable air and an approaching cold front the area will be ripe for heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has put an area of Florida just north of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties into a slight risk of severe weather on Thursday.

But, any clouds in the area could alter the possibility of thunderstorms on Thursday as well.
