They're Not Playing Around!

Is it a book?  Is it a film?  No, the most successful launch in the entertainment world ever, in any medium, is a video game!

"Call of Duty Modern Warfare Three" hit video stores last week.  The numbers are out and it sold an astonishing six and a half million units in just one day in the U.S. and U.K. alone.

That's four hundred million dollars in sales in twenty four hours.

The most successful movie launch ever was this year's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two."  It only made about $90 million dollars in its first day.

Activision's "Call of Duty" franchise has now made more than the worldwide box office for the "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings" franchises.   Only the eight "Potter" films have grossed more.

I'd rather my son play something more educational like "Words with Friends" instead of this violent, shoot 'em up stuff, but there there's no doubt "Call of Duty" has become a major part of the pop cultural landscape.

I wish I'd bought Activision stock when it was cheap.
