MIAMI - Gunfire erupted on the streets of northwest Miami-Dade Tuesday afternoon resulting in three people being sent to the hospital.
It happened shortly before 1 p.m. in the area of NW 64 Street & NW 18 Avenue.
Investigators said a dark-colored SUV was traveling southbound on NW 18 Avenue and made a right turn onto NW 64 Street.
There was an exchange of gunfire between several people inside the SUV and a man who had been standing next to a blue dumpster.
Surveillance video captures the man shooting at the SUV.
"These individuals, you can see that some of them hang out of the window, open the door, they opened the door a little bit and they opened fire towards the people that were standing there. That's when there was an exchange of gunfire," said police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta.
Police said several individuals fled from the vehicle on foot and the driver of the SUV drove off.
Three people were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The individual involved in the incident has been detained for further questioning.
The vehicle remains at large and the motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.
