Suspect In Woman's Disappearance Detained In Nicaragua
MIAMI (CBS4) - Miami-Dade Police say the prime suspect in the disappearance of a Miami Lakes woman has been located in Nicaragua.
MDPD Detective Roy Rutland said Roque Torres was detained by Nicaraguan police.
"It's a lie!" he yells out. "It was an accident!" he said as he was paraded in front of reporters by Nicaraguan police.
Police have been looking for Torres since the disappearance of Marisol Ramon, 41, in May 28, 2010. Ramon was last seen at the Royal Oaks Shopping Center in Miami Lakes. The following month, her remains were found by a tourist near a service road off US 27 near the Broward-Palm Beach County Line.
Shortly after her remains were identified, Ramon's family spoke to CBS4's Natalia Zea.
"I love my mom so much, she means everything to me, and for her to be missing, it breaks my heart to know that the last time I left her I didn't even get to say I love you," said Ramon's son, Steven Nuñez, during a press conference in June.
Marisol's cousin said that it's hard for the family to think of the fact that her skeleton was in such bad shape it took dental records to identify her. They also spoke about her volatile relationship with her on-again off-again boyfriend Roque Torres.
"Really obsessive with her, he would follow her, call her all the time. He would try to be everywhere where she would be at," said Steven.
Police have not commented on when, or if, Torres would be extradited back to the U.S. to face charges.
