The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are "thrilled" with the news that a new NASL team is coming to Miami -- Miami FC.

"The Fort Lauderdale Strikers welcome Miami FC to the NASL," Strikers' Managing Partner Ricardo Geromel said in a statement. "I am certain that the ownership group led by Riccardo Silva and Paolo Maldini will create a first-class organization. We expect a healthy and passionate rivalry when we meet on the field, which is great news for South Florida soccer fans. It furthers the case that this region is fast becoming the soccer capital of North America."

David Beckham has been beaten to the punch in bringing professional soccer to Miami, as he attempts to find a stadium site. Miami FC will not seek a new stadium, according to the New York Times, and instead are looking at preexisting options like FIU.
